Why do they need so many data centers? Their fighting one in Salem,Oregon.
California-based Verrus has proposed a massive $5.1 billion data center campus in southeast Salem called "Oakline at Mill Creek". Planned for a 75-acre site at Turner Road and Deer Park Drive SE, the project is expected to create 75 permanent jobs and could become operational by 2028 if approved.

 

Sort of a simple question here, but:
Where is all this "Data" now?
Where is it stored now?
Is the existing "Data" to be processed multiple times (like bread rising) and take up more space?
How do we know that we need so many and in such locations?
Simple explanation, 3,000 words or less.

Can’t be any simpler than that. Everybody is a nimby about everything. Solar, nuclear, wind, coal, lumber, oil production, prisons factories- doesn’t matter somebody is going to be unhappy that someone is doing something.

 

What one might you be referring to. Utah has several under proposals and a few actually under construction.

 

Not unhappy nor really concerned. As a kid, I was always curious as to how "someone" knew "where" to "build" so they could provide or service a need. Warehouse near a producer, watercraft near a water way, etc. I am still puzzled by the now stalled, massive EV Battery plant SW of the E'Town scales. Guess Louisville vehicle production would have consumed all of its output, or since we have a complete interstate system, other production from Smyrna, Tuscaloosa, and those in GA.
Ya know; as Mack Robinson told me when he said to loosen up and lend it out... "It is just money, and it is not even your money..."
