Five or six years ago I was sitting in a dock in Carroll, Iowa, waiting to be unloaded when a derecho hit. I was facing it, sitting in the cab. Thankfully nothing hit me, but it rocked the truck so hard that when I finally got unloaded and pulled out, the passenger side door on the trailer fell off because all the rocking broke all five hinges. Driving west on the way to the trailer shop the truck nearly blew over from surprise leftovers coming from the north. I was going about 5 mph and had wheels coming up off the ground a couple times till I found a building to hide behind.

The best part was when I called in to report the damage. The lady in safety asked exactly where I was. She said something like, "Oh good, that's confirmation. Another of our trucks blew over about five miles from you." Like, you needed confirmation? Turn on the TV!

 

AND I will add for @homeskillet benefit — my cousin was on the USCG Polar Sea or Star (I can’t never remember) about the same time and when ever we get together he calls me a F’n Landlubber— F’n Coasties — I will admit that those MF’ers was never in port more than a few days and was haze grey and underway— F’n kids nowadays need to roughen up a bit

I'm fine. I went to church then upto where it hit. Some businesses still with out power. Street lights still out. I'm 35 miles away and was home when it hit. Heavy rain and wind but not 100 and 80 mph winds. Illinois got 6 tornadoes other side of border.
