It's an ID card you get from Homeland Security which allows you access to "possible Terrorist Target" sites like ports, chemical plants, etc.
Giuseppe Ventolucci and Lady K Thank this. -
transportation worker's identification card.

Go to Google.com and type in TWIC. You can fill out an application on the website and then you will have to find the port nearest you via the website and go down and pay your $132.50 for you card. Depending on your background, it will take anywhere from 1-6 weeks. I had mine back in a week, so they can be pretty quick. If you need any help, just PM me or hit me back on here and I'll help the best I can.

Am I thinking correct?
You only really need to apply for a TWIC card if you have a hazmat endorsement?(and the company you work for requires it)
I have both now anyway, but I thought thats how it worked? -
During low levels of security you can be escorted in and out by security at most places. But at high security you just ain't going in nohow, noway.
Be real careful about your TWIC card, they are a prime target for thieves.Giuseppe Ventolucci and glider7 Thank this. -
No, hazmat allows you to pull hazourdous cargo, the twic allows you to get on/into port's and sensitive area's.
glider7 Thanks this. -
It can also be used to enter military bases

Giuseppe Ventolucci Thanks this.

i thought a fast card was pricy. if you pass the hazmat background check why another one to get a diffrent card other than more money out of drivers pockets
