It's an ID card you get from Homeland Security which allows you access to "possible Terrorist Target" sites like ports, chemical plants, etc.

Go to Google.com and type in TWIC. You can fill out an application on the website and then you will have to find the port nearest you via the website and go down and pay your $132.50 for you card. Depending on your background, it will take anywhere from 1-6 weeks. I had mine back in a week, so they can be pretty quick. If you need any help, just PM me or hit me back on here and I'll help the best I can.

    Am I thinking correct?
You only really need to apply for a TWIC card if you have a hazmat endorsement?(and the company you work for requires it)
I have both now anyway, but I thought thats how it worked?

Usually, but not necessarily true. Your employer will let you know if you need one or not.

During low levels of security you can be escorted in and out by security at most places. But at high security you just ain't going in nohow, noway.

Be real careful about your TWIC card, they are a prime target for thieves.

No, hazmat allows you to pull hazourdous cargo, the twic allows you to get on/into port's and sensitive area's.

No, you could need it regardless of hazmat or not. Yes I have both a hazmat endorsement and twic, but your company could unknowingly send you to a shipper that requires it such as mine did in NJ. They frieked out at first when I got there thinking we wasn't going to be able to pick up the load(was just a plain ol walmart load) but was happy when I told them we was covered because I had it. 98% of our fleet doesn't have it I believe, but regardless, I can only see having it as a good thing even if you don't haul hazmat. It's a pricey extra, but could potentialy keep you loaded in certain cases. You can get a discount on it if you have hazmat already, but it is so insignificant, I would not bother because it would expire before your license does I'm led to believe. I would just pay the 132.50 and have it for the full 5 years.

i thought a fast card was pricy. if you pass the hazmat background check why another one to get a diffrent card other than more money out of drivers pockets
