Out of 100%, what does the owner take off top and what percentage goes to a sub contractor driver?

If you know from your benefactor owner, king poobah of the company telling you honestly what that 100% was... you are golden.

Otherwise silence making you wonder if they are skimming you leaving you in total dark about what that truck really made.

AINT no body in America gonna show you their poker cards from last week, you are just a DRIVAH, not allowed to know too much.

Lol correct. But the company I'm with actually send me the recon sheet. I also heard of companies editing it also. What I'm asking is what all was the owner suppose to take out first, before I get my 50%? What's the usual going rate?

Im not the one to ask. I bought a tractor back in the 90's and hopped to it looking for freight that week, it did not pan out for off topic reasons. (Long story) anyway... thats your question for others who are current O/O's that might give you some hints and ballparks figure.

25-28% of the gross is pretty normal for a W-2 employee driver. Sounds like you’re in a 50/50 “after expenses” deal? Are you 1099 or W-2?

do not forget, you are getting paid a percentage of the FREIGHT.....and with no freight, or dead heading, you can get a whopping % of zero....

25-30% seems to be the normal range I believe.

I get 25% of the linehaul rate, which doesn't include fuel surcharge. But, I don't pay for the fuel, so I'm ok with that.

I have a buddy doing the same thing I do, for a different company. He's getting 32%, and complaining that the 32% doesn't include the fuel surcharge money. But he doesn't pay for the fuel, so I've asked why he feels he should be paid a percentage of fuel surcharge. He won't give an answer.

Ok let me give it a shot here. Brokers usually get about 20% so I'd say 65% to 80%. Now that's nothing but money. No gas. Your own permits and tags. Land star I think is around 70% 75%, but you run under their authority. TMC says they pay like 65% or 70% I think. Please correct if I'm wrong.

If youre gonna work for a percent you need the ability to verify the rate. On THE OTHER END. When i signed up for a percent gig the deal from day 1 is i will be checking up on you. Tell me no or fib, i say goodbye. I bring back the checks or negotiate the rate on almost everything i haul.

25% of linehaul is pretty normal but you cant run enough hours in this market to pay your own bills and the coming self employment taxes/medical etc on a 1099 @25%. So there better be a good reason for taking it. [Good reasons exist, just make sure you have one that offsets the issues.] Its a job, but on low rates itll probably shake out to the same hourly wage as working at tractor supply, except youre never home.
