I own my truck, have an llc but I’m leased to a company. I’d like to bring my 4 year old son out once ina while with my wife. He’s obsessed with semi trucks and I know he’d love it. Do I need insurance aside from what my company gives me for him if I’m leased to the company? If so where would I start? Who would I contact, names of insurance companies. Or do I just need him in the car seat strapped down obviously?

There are not three safety belts in a truck. Probably not a good idea.

My agent said that he can not cover anyone in my truck. I have my own authority and I am not leased on to anyone. He mentioned a story about a driver who had his kid and the kid died in a crash. The wife sued him.

I think the only way is just do it at your own risk if O/O and with permission if leased on and it is a option with them. Probably only the self insured megas???

    Good question though.

You need to inform the carrier you are leased to. They should have rules in place on what is allowed and what is not. Also age of riders that are allowed to be on truck. According to FMCSA if they allow riders they are to give you a letter stating the name of the rider I believe their age and how long they can be on the truck. If you are your own carrier then you have to print that letter give it to yourself and carry it on the truck. You shouldn't need any insurance, carrier takes care of that, they can charge you for it but they will get it. Hope this helps.

Not to get all crazy and stand on my soap box. But this is the reason why people can't do this kind of work now, or any kind of trades. Insurance companies kill experiences now lol.
