I was wondering, what is something you are tired of hearing from a recruiter, something that you hate the most and makes you hang up right away?
What is something you hate hearing from a recruiter at a bad trucking company?

1) "We treat you like family!"
2) "We pay 52 cent per mile. More than most other companies."
3) "We give lots of miles. More than the other guys!"
3) When they use the term "We are a team!" That turns me off big time. The reason I am in trucking is, I work alone. I am a loner. I don't need to work around others. Give me my paperwork and I'll call you when its delivered. If I wanted to be social, I'd work in an office with a bunch of rattling, nosey, noisy people.Flat Earth Trucker, Rugerfan, homeskillet and 18 others Thank this. -
I'm retired, but I always hated "We've got the miles!". That's basically code speak for "You'll be running your arse off to make a decent check". I don't give two squats about who has the miles. I want to know who has the money!

I haven't listened to a recruiter in a long time but "We treat you like family" just flat scares the crap out of me.

Another red flag for me was if I saw bible verses on their wagons.

Another cousin..."Terry, can you bring your stock trailer out tomorrow and haul a bull to the sale for me? My trailer has a busted door." The reason his trailer had a busted door was because the bull was insane and would head-stand anybody and anything that got in it's way. That included partially open trailer doors. I got a new door out of the deal but I had to pay for it myself.
"Terry can you come down and bail me out?" I haven't heard that one in a while but my standard answer used to be "Sure, just sit tight and I'll be right there" and then turn over and go back to sleep. Usually I'd never hear from them again but I might have to fist fight them at the next family reunion.
"Treat you like family?" Please, no.Flat Earth Trucker, Rugerfan, homeskillet and 14 others Thank this. -
Well, for me, it aint about real family. But its the indication that they treat you well, then you get there and after 3 months, you're getting the shaft left and right. So, its the insinuation that they treat you well. If they have to tell you that, you know they're lying to you right off the bat.
I mean, family is tight.. they hep each other. Nothing closer than family. We'll do anything for family. They want you to believe that the the company owners, managers etc will be "tight" with you. Will bend over backwards to help you when you get in a fix.
In my experience, if they aren't already known for "treating you like family" they probably wont. They're just using a line because they ain't already known for it. If they have a good reputation, they aint got to tell you that.
We treat you like family.. we're paying 52 cents a mile!
I'm thinking...Flat Earth Trucker, homeskillet, Cherokee65 and 6 others Thank this.
