Hello, my fellow, Drivers and Owner operators
I am willing to buy a truck to do flatbed loads, I'm just worried about the weight am I gonna be fine or it's gonna be heavy? I'm willing to buy a 1999 Kenworth W900L Studio sleeper 86 inch with a cat C 15 6NZ the sticker on the door says 19,250 pounds I think this is without the fuel.
Is this a good truck for flatbed or it's too heavy please advise

If it's heavy, what do you suggest a good truck weight and high rise or mid sleeper?

    Thank you all.

Consider you're going to be adding a fair few pounds for the headache rack you should be getting you want to be able to scale at least 48,000 lb so get a read on what kind of trailer you're going to get. Full aluminum, combo, or steel? Newer aluminums seem to be under 10,000 lb.

    My truck/trailer with fuel is 29,680#,KW T 880 S and 48' Fontaine.
I can get the 46k-48k loads that pay decent.
A lot of drivers have W900's and pull a light stepdeck, some just have regular 48' flatbeds.
You won't know until you get your truck/trailer together and scale it.If you're over 32,000 lbs empty just be careful choosing loads.

It depends on what you are going to carry. For instance DOD flatbed loads are rarely over 40k and most are under 20k, My steel 53 trailer with conestoga weighs in at 16k and our extended frame tractor is at 23k . I have turned down 1 load due to weight in the last year

For FAK ( FREIGHT ALL KINDS) If you can keep your weight with trailer, tractor and securement supplies under 33K then you will be eligible for 90% of the loads.

If you're running spot freight keep your tractor weight less than 20k. Then get yourself an aluminum 48x102 flatbed weighing less than 12k. You want your combo weight to be 32k maximum with both tanks full of fuel and all your securement on board.

    Tb0n3 Thanks this.
