I have driven truck since 1966, I have over 4 million miles and during that period I have had more tickets than I can remember. I have not had one for over 25 years. I used to run Ohio an awful lot of the time. I've heard of drivers getting tickets for 1-2 mph over the limit. I have never had a ticket for speeding in a construction zone because I slow down. When on the open road I usually run 5 over the posted limit. Now after saying all of that I have never gotten a ticket for less than 10 over and have never seen one of those 1-2 mph tickets someone else got.

Ohio got me lots of times with the air plane but never for less than 10 over. I find it hard to believe a cop would waste his time for a 1-2 mph ticket. If they want to pull you over for another purpose they just do it, no BS 1 mph ticket necessary. I have to believe if someone get a 1-2 mph they could beat it in court, after all the only vehicles on the road that have certified speedometers are cop cars, and I don't want to hear any crap about drive below the limit or get out of trucking, neither are an intelligent response to the OP question, which was total gotten away from about 100 post ago.

Your right!!! But the one mile over is most of the time in company trucks that hire newbie's because they can get more out of it. I even seen a ticket for not keeping control of the truck in IN ( he never left the travel lane ) he was looking at the LEO in his mirror.

There is somewhere in the regulations something about . ( A commercial vehicles speedometer needs to only be accurate within 5 mph at 50 miles per hour.) I used to have that printed off . I will try to find it again. I used to get argued with over it but when I produced the printed version, the noise quieted down.
I always tell drivers especially new ones to READ the 395 book. If you only do 2 or 3 pages a day you will learn something and reduce the potential of tickets and know the rules. You will be able to beat or prevent some tickets if you are knowledgeable about the regulations you must work with.
When I find it I will post it.

I don't think this is going to get you out of receiving a ticket for speeding. It may help you win in court for a few MPH over the limit but don't count on it. This information does not make you an expert.
I know that Freightliner's speedometers are reading fast. but only about 2 to 3 mph. That is not bad.

As I have posted previously I set my cruise by my GPS because I've heard they are more accurate than the speedo. I drive a W900 and the speedo registers 1-1 1/2 mph slower than the GPS, depending on truck speed, 75 mph = 1 1/2 mph.

War stories. A 1 to 2-over ticket would not be considered reasonable by anyone who is sane. Gauges are gauges, no reasonable person expects perfection.

There's no end to these stories. My favorite was a guy in CA put OOS solely because there was grease on a nut to be inspected.

Ill tell you something else too. When that speedometer is set up at the factory on that truck, it is set up based on the tire size that is on the truck at the time it is set up. If, somewhere down the line, that tire size changes, the speedometer will become uncalibrated, thus will become inaccurate.

You are right about that. I put larger tires on my Chevy pickup and it was necessary to recalibrate the speedo. That is easy to do if you run a Bully Dog reprogramer like I do. Between the GPS and the Bully Dog the speedo now is dead on.

If you know a cop that has radar . Ask if he would check your speedometer for you. See if his reading is close to or the same as the speedometer or GPS reads. Radar is the ticket getter . My GPS reads 2 mph faster than the speedo does in my Freightliner.

Unfortunately the 1 or 2 or 3 mph over is being done . Blame it on two things. CSA BS and budget short falls. It also give the officer reason on paper ( ticket) to inspect your truck. He really does not care if you fight it in court or not. . I got a ticket for speeding which I was not doing. Another truck passed me the cop going the other way saw my truck, his radar saw the other truck. Guess which one got pulled over. ? To make a long story short by the time I got done crossing my t's and dotting my i's, A judge, 6 officers, two ladies in the judges office and the bailiff were indicted. This was in Ohio. They were using ticket books that had been reported lost or stolen and were pocketing the money. They all shared in it.
NEVER get mouthy with the cop. It is yes sir no sir. If you give them any indication your going to fight it they make detailed notes that will give them an edge in court.
TIP. If you pay a ticket by mail use a Postal Money order. . That is a federal money order. If you decide to push it then the Federal money order allows the Government to get involved into a civil matter. That is how I did it. My congressman assisted. That is the short version.
