Don't let negative people silence you, not everyone out there is prejudiced, just like not every foreigner is a threat to the industry. Any decent self respecting individual would appreciate your input over the radio.

Apart from everyone talking to everyone and not leaving the channel free for something of importance, instead of going up or down a few channels my guess would be the mobile phone has something to do with it.

Other then having mine on waiting to be called to back in a door etc, or after being stopped in traffic I generally stopped using mine about 2002-2003 time frame. It was also a process that started in the mid 90s. I just got tired of all the toys the drivers had. Some had echo's so bad it sounded like they were speaking in another language. Then came the "pings" for a long time when a "pinger" became active I just turned mine off. Then there were many times I attempted to use mine to get directions to a place to load/unload and have the person trying to help me get covered up by some moron running an amp making snide comments of all types. Honestly once I started using a cell phone that CB did not last long.

With this said, some of my best memories of my career as a driver were CB conversations. Many times I would be out west and the Superbowl or playoff games were on the radio. You can imagine the CB conversations. I always loved to pick at other drivers in sports or even politics late at night while sipping coffee and trying to make it to my next appt on time. For the most part, all the "kids" stopped this 15+ years ago. I just listened to my satellite radio and enjoyed the night my last 10 or so years.
