LoL... sorry~!!! It's the wife's hangout, and she doesn't "have" a name because she's got a big Italian mouth and would've probably told Ryan off by now, LoL! She's looking in to getting in both feet this summer, we shall see. She just 'reads and reads and reads....' over there, and includes me in to the fun stuff, LoL. Like the B-screen, and the FBV thread. I'm kinda too old to even KNOW what to tell a newbie; got "grandfathered in" and then STILL had to take school stuff to get on with my Y2K jobs. Not as old as OS or EV but not far, LoL. It's all in how you look at it.
Sorry I had you stymied; should've told ya. ( I did the same thing to @Thull a while back, he thought I was a mod!) unintentionally for sure. Did you say hi to Pat over here? LoL.....
When wife DOES decide to "join" in over there... i'll let you know her user name... for now, we are just "read-only" and mostly her....LoL! I feel like i know y'all thru her, she's got diesel in her veins, and lasagna in her mouth, it happens.
If you have ANY questions regarding Tanks, pumping, PTO's, hoses, etc..... leme know. Nice to meet ya~!
ps: Good luck with your new "upcoming" rig... if you can do Flats you can do this~!!!

I have seen Pat's posts over here, but haven't said hi yet, maybe I'll do that. I was thinking that was the direction I wanted to go (over-dimensional / heavy haul / specialized) but after the surgery I'm happy to do something a little bit lighter. It's still nice to get outdoors. I don't think I could pull a box.
I appreciate the offer for help. I know I'm going to need it. I'm not sure, but I get the feeling that they may assign me a truck this week and send me out. For sure by early next week. I know there will be all kinds of little things that I'll have to learn -- like where to unload, how to get into the plant and find the person to talk to if they don't come out, etc.
And I'm betting that sooner rather than later I'm going to have some equipment issue that will stump me. Last night the PTO didn't want to work for the first five or ten minutes. My trainer is experienced, and he was about to call dispatch since we weren't getting any product out of the tank. I tried it again and the pump started running, but it was a mystery. It might have been because we had to add about a gallon of hydraulic fluid to the PTO before we left because it was low, but he wasn't sure. This is the truck I'm likely to be assigned, so at least I'm familiar with that.
I am working to maintain the attitude that I'm a rookie again so I'm going to have to ask a lot of dumb questions to make sure I don't screw up. At least I can shift now and control the truck, but everything I know about tying down loads is useless now.
What kind of stuff do you haul? Where do you run?G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
I haul Asphalt, mostly 6122 and 3257 within the state of Ohio, for an O/O with a very small fleet. (me, him and another guy....sometimes 2, LoL!) Our biggest customer is The Shelly Co., and their main plant is in Toledo, which is a couple of hours for me to load, to even start my day (night!) Boss man runs days, so often I will have a preload that I pick up at his barn in Marengo, Ohio. About 20 minutes away. We're getting super busy this time of year; I deliver to Lima, Newark, Auglaize Co., Fremont, Napoleon, .... on and on and on..LoL. We do some recon for Kokosing, as well. Big paving company (ies) here in Ohio.
In the slow winter months (this one wasn't too bad here in Ohio, T.G.) I've pulled flats for United Precast in Mount Vernon. THAT, sir, is not for me. Concrete doesn't need much tarping, but the securement had me stymied. Preloaded tripods that were "supposedly" secured, were not. I've had a couple of close calls, as you may have read. Anymore, I just take a week or month off in the Winter if/when the weather gets too cold to move my product, rather than jeopardize my license~!
What kind of tractor do you have? I think you said a Freightliner... 10 speed? If so, that's great. I'm leery about ever having to drive an auto with surge...but someday it may be a non-choice. We've got "older" Pete's at my barn, well-maintained ... actually SUPER maintained.
We've followed your journey, and it's amazing that you are back on the road after all you've been through. My wife's ex (who we are good friends with) owns a local restaurant, and went thru similar fate a few months back, as well. Kudos, man. Big time. You'll feel better to get out there again; I think you were wise to go with tanks. Pay is better than reefers and vans, by far. May not be as good as OS/OD/OW . . . . but who knows; maybe that will call you again, or you'll find your comfort zone here!
Ok, I'm rambling, gotta head out soon. Ask away, if you have any questions I can help ya with, man.
Best wishes to you, by all means. Always """"vent!"""" as you know.
Tomorrow is today, be safe & ttys!

No offense, but food grade is the easier side of tanking. You're going to miss the fun of wearing a Gumby suit in the middle of summer, that's fun. Seriously, good luck and keep us updated on how you're doing. And remember, take all of ramps slower then you think.
Bud A., Thull, G13Tomcat and 1 other person Thank this. -
ps: Boattlebot (and me, i guess...) got our right-turn thread SO derailed, they moved the WHOLE thing to the social forum. I think me and @scottied67 actually had some good advice mixed in there, tho! -
G13Tomcat Thanks this.

And yeah, the missus doesn't want me doing hazmat at all. I've got XT endorsements, but she says learn tanker first, then learn hazmat later if I still want to do it. We'll see.ChicagoJohn Thanks this.
