What local companies rely on MVR and not DAC report?

All of them most likely.

 

The better question is what company doesn't rely on MVR.

 

Only megas use dac and psp. And they aren't worth working for.

Or used to.

Some local long haulers might use psp now that brokers are looking at safety scores.

 

What are you so worried about?

 

MVR just shows your driving record. Did you hit something, run a red light, any DUIs, speedng tickets, etc. PSP from my understanding shows the results of DOT inspections (basically your CSA score).

DAC shows all the stuff a previous trucking company you worked for wants to say about you, regardless of whether it is safety-related. This is where comments about truck abandonment, not being rehireable, etc. would show up. This is also where incidents would show up that the company claims happened but may not have been safety-related or caused any damage so it's not listed anywhere else (for instance, if you hit a deer but you weren't in the wrong and no damage happened, but the company still wanted to "ding" you on it to future employers, it would be listed in the DAC report but wouldn't show up in your MVR or PSP).

To answer OP's question: I don't know what local companies you are curious about, but most OTR trucking companies with over 150 trucks (and especially over 200-250 trucks) are likely to pay for a DAC report on potential hires. If a local company still has a national reach (like Pepsi or Sysco or something) they might run your DAC as well. Small companies as well as very regional or heavily specialized companies are unlikely to run your DAC, and companies that employ truckers but aren't themselves trucking companies are also unlikely to run your DAC. But your results still may vary; these are just general guidelines. If they make you put in an application through Driver Pulse, the higher the likelihood they are going to run your DAC.

 

DAC ( now called Hire Right) is a subscription service. Only some trucking companies subscribe to DAC. I have heard maybe 25% of trucking companies subscribe to DAC.

DAC is covered by the same federal laws as apply to credit bureaus. This means you can challenge entries on your DAC report. You can provide a statement ( it must fit the rules for such statements) that will be provided to everyone requesting your DAC report. You are allowed AT LEAST 1 free copy per year of your DAC report.

Most small carriers don't use DAC

I was directly involved in processing applications for seven different companies, mega, large , medium, and small.

Only 2 used DAC/HireRite and those 2 didn't pay for the full monte.

Both did submit 'termination reports' for the $2.50 bounty....er, discount.

Just as I started to retire, Tenstreet started to blossom; they will make DAC look bush league.

 

I work local for Builder's First Source which is a very large company. To my knowledge they do not use DAC but they do a very extensive background check nonetheless.

 

If we knew which local you lived in, we might have a better answer.
