Compared th the hoods at the time I bought mine, I fared better than most all on m.p.g. k.w.'s & pete's with the cat's, got no where near what I got. I have spoken to hundreds over the years. very few compared. after paying $15,000 cash for my truck & getting the m.p.g. that I got, to me ,, did not stink. it took me over 11 years in the industry. with no payment, decent m.p.g. & great reliability I am still here & going strong. one has to consider replacement parts for newer trucks too. even if they get better m.p.g. than mine.

I'd say if you got those numbers pushing it at 1700 to 1800 rpms that you were getting excellent fuel mileage. What was your axle ratio and what kind of speeds were you running. Speed can kill fuel mileage but if you drive right it doesnt always have to. The thing I hate more than anything else is a brisk headwind.
BoyWander Thanks this. -
I had a 95 FLD with the 11 liter and a super 10 and used to get aroung 7.5 mpg, but was seldom over 70,000 lbs. It was a great little motor, but with 4.33 rears I was wound up at 70mph when the raised the western speed limits.

I dont know my rear ratio. I have the super 10. gross weight is 78-80 grand 90 % of the time. wide open at 1850 I keep it at 1700-1850 40 miles 4 ln highway, 200 miles interstate. usually run 300 mile radius. headwind get my m.p.g down more than any other factor. when I hauled brick, or skidded coils, that were low lying & not catching the wind, I would get 7.0. m.p.g. when I would back off the speed, in MI. couple years back 55 m.p.h. # 1400 rpm's I would get 7.5-7.9 m.p.g.

mine wound up at 68 m.p.h until I went from l.p. 22.5 to 22.5 standard tires. now 72-74 tops. I have been telling people my m.p.g for over 11 years, & being in a cabover, most think I am exxagerating or just lying. I am glad someone with a similar set up can verify the m.p.g. ONLY the ones with the 11.1 would concur with me on the m.p.g. also the reliability on the 11.1 too.The Challenger Thanks this. -
Pre-07 and Post-07 can not be compared for fuel economy.
We're still recovering from the DPF burn. The Challenger Thanks this. -

Toyota. You won't make any money with one though. lol

the reason it is hard to say witch truck has the best m.p.g is one truck may have the best in theory, like in a wind tunnel. if you take the most aerodynamic cab with a engine that gets less m.p.g. than you dont have the best setup for best m.p.g. maybe the prostar is better cabwise & aerodynamiclly better than the cascadia, but maybe the detroit is better than the cummins on fuel. I liked it better when you could get any cab, with any of the dependable 3, cummis, cat or detroit. -
