Looking to become an employee for a trucking company. I am unaware of who allows drivers to choose or bid on road tractors and would appreciate insight. I do not want to be put in a piece of crap truck for hours a day but do not know if the driver has that flexibility or control anywhere. Thanks in advance for your input and feedback!
What trucking companies allow drivers to bid or choose the tractor they use?

Uh well , i know a few that might give you a choice , but of all the companies i've worked at , the new guy got what was avalible. I know one driver that drives a particular truck ( company owned) that no one else drives , but he requested that way and it works . But he's also a top hand and been here a long time too. I guess i could too , but all the trucks are the same and since i 'm not particular to one , doesn't really matter , but i do drive the the sleeper more than the other guys.

The short answer is none, you don't own the company you are a new person with unknown habits and work ethics. Only a O/O would pick the truck and wouldn't ever be something I would tell another that it is a good choice. There are so many things you must do and you are working against the government, and people who wish pay you next nothing to run that load and fuel and too often I have see drivers run miles free or does something that dumb to get where pay is high or makes zero sense as a former business owner something I would never consider becoming O/O because you have too much against you...

pick a decent company that runs good equipment, and oldest truck could be better than some companies average truck.
don't think you will find that says go pick out your own, unless they have a bunch of empty ones.201, TripleSix, RockinChair and 2 others Thank this. -

I spent six months driving a beater, didn’t complain (much), did my job, was dependable, bailed out my dispatcher a few times, and ended up getting an almost new truck. You gotta pay the dues…
