Someday I will have my own truck, right now I am still a company driver.

I aint no mechanic so I want to start learning some of the things I will need to keep maintenance costs down. By practicing it on the company truck, if I screw something up then nothing lost on my part, I can just blame it on the truckstop mechanic and have it fixed right.

basically everything except alignments for myself

basic stuff like oil changes grease, alternators and things like that are real easy stuff to do yourself even if your not that skilled. the more you do the more confident you will be to take on larger repairs.

And any time something is going bad go ahead and fix it not patch it as soon as you can. Because a simple problem can lead to a big problem

I do oil changes, grease jobs, have replaced water pumps, alternators, air compressors, etc right in my driveway. Anything that requires tearing into the engine, trans, or diffs, I leave to the professionals at a nearby shop that I've used for almost 10 years.

We did pretty much anything that didn't require a laptop. Also never pulled any powertrain components apart either as they were all under warranty for 5 years or more. Figured Kenworth could pay for that stuff. Everything else we'd take care of in the back yard.
