I remember watch'n black/white moives for the 50's and seeing those old subbed nosed signal axle tractors with the split rear windows having a flat spot behind the seats for the driver to sleep .. if that counts as a sleeper ..lol.. I have to try to google up a pic on the interweb

Depends on what you define as a "stand up sleeper" if you mean something like we have today i.e bunk behind the seats with room to stand then that would be kenworth in 1933 which were better known as integral sleepers. However these were a limited 1 off style of modification that had to be requested and werent uniform. According to family records my X4 great grandfather ordered 3 sleeper units for his sons and #####ed constantly in the journals we have how no two sleepers were identical and were a pain in the ### to repair. Before that point almost all sleepers were modifications to existing trucks done either by a carrier or by an owner again going off family records. Though occasionally you would get a special request done by a dealer yet again going off family records.

If you mean wide scale production then that would have been freightliner in 53 making the first production model semi sleeper. Though i have a journal from 1956 of my X2 great grandfather when he bought a pete 351 with a sleeper and how estatic he was over how much more comfortable it was over his fathers (x3 great grandfather) wf64 and how cavernious it was.

The ones that surprised me were the under Trailer coffin types I found. Don’t think I’d want any part of that. Imagine someone steals the Truck, while you’re sleeping!!

Back in those days NYC from here 190mi was an overnight trip. The book i took the pic from was 100th anniversary of mack from the beginning. Stuff you can't find on the net. One of the 1st busses they made ended up clocking over a million miles in its life a 100 years ago. Pretty cool
