i’m at the crossroads right now and not sure what to do.... I have 03’ freightliner columbia with C-15 6NZ engine. I bought the truck in 08’ with about 400k on it. got about 1.5 million miles on the truck right now. had this truck for 10 years. during all these years I never have to spend a dime in the engine besides oil change. my question to you is, if you were in my place would you overhaul the engine ,tranny ,rear ends and few other things. total cost about $40k. or for that money just buy a newer truck ,but with the egr and dpf ?

Trucks tend to be after a good rebuild, the way they were before
If it was nickle and dimeing you before, it will after . If it was a good truck before, it will still be a good truck after.
Stick with the reliable truck you know. You could spend that much in a year or two on a new truck just on emissions problems.

Wow that's impressive! Everyone should be that fortunate.

Only you can answer that question. But if the truck in every other way is roadworthy and comfortable and you like it, why not? If you keep up with them trucks can pretty much be rebuilt to Infinity.

well frame is rusted pretty good and I don’t think that sandblasting and painting it over do the trick to last me another 10 years. I think if I decided to do engine overhaul tranny and rear ends, I think that best option would be then to replace the frame too. but I heard from others that the cost would be crazy expensive?

Maybe look into a glider kit and drop your newly rebuilt 6NZ into it.

    Never sell a 6nz....

Rebuild. Rebuild rest of truck 1 piece at a time as you go, as needed. Those things will run for longer than you probably care to drive it. You will be way further ahead than buying a new emission truck. You will always be able to sell it for a pretty penny as long as it runs good.
