100W does the trick. Takes another 500 to move the S-meter up on the other guys rig.

I have the Galaxy 99v2. Same radio, but without amp. I can put a $75 baby amp behind it and equal that performance. Or better it by applying the “extra” money elsewhere.

    75W? 100W? 250W? All sorta the same.

Have always liked this 99 — the receiver IS a real step up from a 29 —but you’ll see arguments that other radios are better on SSB.

I’d rather have the RANGER 2970-N2 in that price range today. And I know you’ll find a LOT of guys in love with a 955 Stryker.

Unless, of course, this was from the tune-up vid of the custom rig you’re getting from The MR X CB SHOP

Get what you want. Only messing with you. A little. ‘Cause with that MR X 98 you’re required to steal a pair of CW 10K Predators to mount at 45-degrees, and them things ain’t hangin’ off every cow wagon at every truck stop parking lot every night.

    Dedicacion, hombre!

    Assuming a typical fleet truck:

    - Uniden 980 AM/SSB

    - RM ITALY KL203 amp

    - WEST MOUNTAIN RADIO CLEARSPEAKER

    - RG8X coax with AMPHENOL ends and (likely) top load antennas (Skipshooter)

    -Top Gun SS Mount stud

    -RF Limited 2018 microphone

Build a power harness that from a single pair of leads powers radio, amp & speaker.

Get it dialed in by someone with an antenna analyzer (RIG EXPERT or MFJ-259). Make any necessary minor mods.

    Hear, and be heard

Really is the best advice. RL has that irritating habit.

You could learn a lot by reading his CB Forum posts.

No. It's all about the installation and antenna.
Yes. Plan on spending a couple weeks working the bugs out of the installation before expecting any decent results.

    So tell us.

Crossed my mind a few times.

But I also haven’t felt like finding a word-sum analysis program. That’s work. Without pay. Wrong motivation, too.

The surprise (given a reveal) would be adequate to the shared interest. Fun, not work.

Buuuuut, you’ve set yourself up, now. Since we’re from hereon to call you Elmer, well,

given the, ah, tenor, of some of your posts . . . you know the first picture that’ll go across a truck driver mind:

You could get a General HP40 that will do about 110 watts for $270 from cbradiosplus, have a proper alignment and tune done for about $350 total. Get a good cheap antenna like a skipshooter for $28 or a nice Predator 10k for $80. Mount and everything include would keep you under $500.

Or whatever radio you have now, add a Connex LT2 echo board for about $40-50. Buy a used 2 pill amplifier whether it be a fat boy, Texas Star, for $200 or less. Get radio tuned and aligned correctly, good antenna like above and you will be under budget and have a good setup still.
