At least 4 brokers listing 48' 22K van loads as LTL on ITS in the area I'm looking right now...

If its more than one pick or drop, its considered LTL.

Didn't consider that; all of the multiple pick/drops that take up the whole truck I have seen listed as TL though

I used to do the ltl frozen seafood deal. Even though I would leave one coast, or the other, I was completely loaded with ltl shipments. It was not unusual to make 10 to 13 picks, around Boston, then start dropping from Omaha, all the way to Seattle.

The LTL is likely not actually 48'. You might just call the broker to find out how many feet the LTL is. The 48' is probably more indicative of what equipment the broker needs. Meaning, this can load on a 48' trailer.

Did Gloucester Dispatch and H&M, back in the mid 80s. Rates were comparable, between the two. Biggest thing was Gloucester Dispatch was only east to west, while H&M was both ways.

Lots of back roads untill the first few drops were off.
