Went through Ohio yesterday on 71 and 70, must have seen 15 to 20 trucks pulled over by state troopers. They seemed to be set up before rest areas to make you pull off into the rest area. Talked to a guy and he said they been doing it for a week or so..

Any idea what they are doing? Is it eld checks or something? Seemed like they were focusing on smaller mom pop type trucks and not the megas which makes me think they are checking elogs.

    It's Ohio.

They have been doing that for decades.

I had a convoy of 6, Smokies caught us at 85+ in a 55 at the 13 yard stick of all things westbound by laser one year. Two were warrents and arrested and 3 including myself had 40 dollar tickets which we paid and got the eff out. They knocked the speeds down so that we wont all have to go pay big tickets even though they had us to rights. Nice of them.

They operate like that on and off. Ever since they mostly closed their permanent weigh houses, they work like this. When you see one, expect to see many more the next 6 hours or so.

I say buy a $1200 radar/laser detector, $500 CB, and $100 per month legal service to avoid tickets, or just drive like the cops are behind you at all times.

Some of the nicest people I dealt with were in Ohio. PUCO was not one of them. I was running across the green stamp with a buddy's old Marmon with straight pipes late one night, a PUCO came up beside me, and stayed next to me for several miles. Needless to say, I was a bit nervous, but he moved on. Also, stopped in a rest area to take a leak, I noticed a PUCO grilling someone else. I never set the parking brake, and got the heck out of there.
