    What's With The Wasted Weekends?!

My beau is told to pick up and deliver a load on Saturday morning. Most recently he picked up a load in San Benito, TX and drove to El Paso, TX. Guess what? He gets there Saturday morning and they aren't open. They are closed for the weekend. You would think dispatch would know this, but they never do. :biggrin_25516: It's not like he gets paid for sitting there waiting either, as I'm sure y'all know. Worse he spent this past weekend in El Paso, TX. Now I mean no offense to anybody from El Paso; but I've been there and it's not exactly a blooming metropolis of cultural activities. What with the recent border wars and drug cartels, not to mention your random thugs attacking truckers in general I am not pleased. He's a former Army Ranger so I'm not worried he'll get hurt. I know he can take care of himself, I just worry about him is all.

Grrr, anyway this is like the third time in 5 weeks this has happend.:biggrin_25510: If they are gonna make him sit somewhere for 48 hours, why can't it be someplace closer to home so I can go meet him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if he's not moving, the company which employs him isn't making money either, right?

I saw one of our drivers at the bank Saturday . He picked up a load Friday that delivered 1,000 miles away Tuesday . They let him go 300 miles out his way to spend the weekend home on his restart . If he had gone straight through with the load they would have paid him 2 days layover . The fuel for 300 miles was less expense for them than 2 days layover pay .
I have picked up loads in Carrollton , KY on Friday for a Monday delivery in Ontario . I'm loaded by 8 a.m. Friday . They always have me backtrack 150 miles to get my restart home and leave Sunday , going right back through Carrollton .

even if he got unloaded Saturday, this could go two ways, he sits all weekend anyway, or he sits 24-30 hours real close to his restart, and they message him to pick up a dropped trailer and deliver it monday AM. blowing his 34 restart.

Most company's will do their best to keep these truckers away from home, they don't want you going home anytime really, at least that is the way it always seemed to us. He need to never depend on his dispatcher, if it's a weekend or after hours he needs to always call and make sure they are in. Dispatchers I've found will tell you anything to get you to go out there and pick up a load.

There are all kinds of ways to find a phone number. yahoo yellow pages is great, or jsut search the company. or i have even called a sister company like General mills in Michigan and ask them for the phone number for general mills in Garland, tx.

This would be a great way for you to help out your fella. Us women need to help out where we can.

need any advice feel free to PM me.

i no that some companies will not pay lay over pay if you are under a load,
so seems to me they gave him the ld and said it deliverd on sat, so he would ger there, knowing he would have to sit all weekend, with out having to pay him more then the miles...

If you are out of hours and need a restart that is a legitimate reason not to pay layover . If you have available hours and are losing money waiting you should be paid .

    Not so true.
My company has regional drivers, that they get to go home once a week. And if thier load takes them near the house on their way to a cust. The get to go home w. load, provided it's secure.
When i have loads out of So. Cal, going to Reno, and i run 395, i over night at my house with load. Get up the next am, go on into reno for my drop.
