He has only been a trucker for a year. He probably does not see home and thinks that is the normal. There are co's that get you home on the weekends.

Yep! Always CYA. I would have called, especially if it was a wknd unload.
You can also call a customer and sometimes "sweet talk" an early load or unload.
It's trucking, stuff happens. -
I know they're are companies that get you home on the weekends. I'm just saying, most companies in general, by the way I'm home right now.
-
I agree, that is how it should be. BUT, in reality, if you are under a load you don't get paid for getting there early. Sometimes you can talk your "travel agent' into some $$$ also, worth a try.
-
You would think dispatch would know this, but they never do.
Chances are, they do know it, but fail to tell your "beau"
because they could really care less where he sits for the
weekend as long as they know the load will be there Monday Morn.
It's not like he gets paid for sitting there waiting either, as I'm sure y'all know.
Oh we all know, and your by far not the first one to complain about it.
But unfortunately thats just how the ball bounces sometimes in the trucking industry.
Grrr, anyway this is like the third time in 5 weeks this has happend.
Like others have said, maybe it would be a good Idea for him to start calling ahead, but as I see you live in Ga., it really won't do him any good (besides knowing what to expect) unless he's gonna turn the load down.
If they are gonna make him sit somewhere for 48 hours, why can't it be someplace closer to home so I can go meet him.
It could be that they don't have any loads going your way at the time.
It could be that your man is the only one available in the aread to pick up that load. It could be that they for what ever reason don't want your man going home at the time. There are just so many possible answers to this question.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if he's not moving, the company which employs him isn't making money either, right?
They are getting paid for the load he is dropping, and they can rest assured knowing that you man has the load covered and it will be there on time.

When I was single, trucking was a way to get to race tracks and antique truck shows. There may be opportunities to visit relatives. The only time I attended professional baseball was during a layover. A driver should keep a schedule of events in his region.

Had a gal in Ohio I would get a load near now and then. Took her and the kids to the airport one day and there were guys jumping with those glider type chutes down to a big X on the tarmac. We made numbers on paper with magic markers and held them up for scores...honking the air horns for every "10".
Another time we went and there was a herd of guys with remote control planes, cars and copters. Really fun to watch. -
You are correct sir.

Dispatchers DO know that the places are closed on the weekends, or atleast they can find out, and if not, he should CALL the place he is headed to and ask them if they are open on the weekend or not.
Is the place he is going sorta by his house? That might be why he is getting those loads, so he can take it home for the weekend and sit on it.
Thats what I do, get a load every friday that delivers to Austin or Round Rock so I can spend the weekend at home and deliver Monday morning. -
it would be nice if they thought about the driver and his family, but we all know how that goes. BTW what does beau stand for?
