Things have been tense at my work. We have our safety meeting today and it quickly deteriorated into drivers very loudly voicing their complaints. The cameras were a hot topic as they’ve put them in some trucks and not others and many drivers who had them installed have resigned. And questions like how can you preach to us about safety when we have to deliver to such tight spots and our mechanics suck and need to go back to Jiffy Lube and if you don’t want me talking on my phone why won’t dispatch stop calling. Also many complaints about the pizza being cold and the food was better at last meeting. I mostly kept my mouth shut but did point out some drivers I know making more money at the competition which many echoed. We’re supposed to get a raise soon.

Even at one point a couple of the managers were arguing with each other.

Kinda a joke we even have these stupid meetings. But that’s the LTL life.

Good to hear that guys are quitting due to the cameras. Hopefully the company is learning a lesson.

I think once the labor market stabilizes they’ll put the cameras in all the trucks. Hopefully I’m gone by then.

NavigatorWife, JoeyJunk and nredfor88 Thank this.

"and if you don’t want me talking on my phone why won’t dispatch stop calling."

    Hypocrisy at its finest.

You want the truth? Nothing will change. These companies keep offering larger sign-on bonuses, they fill the seats at a lower wage than before, and they ride the cycle until the next mass exodus. I saw it at McLane, my partner saw it there and at Coke, and he'll even the oilfield is getting tattle-tales in their equipment. Companies like Fed-Ex and UPS even document if you start the engine before buckling up as it costs an extra $0.02 in fuel, they continue to grow though because most of us have to work.

The last one I went to, some safety man states that he drove 13 years. Then he goes into the whole spill about how many feet it takes to stop, from the time you see the brake light of the car in front of you to the time it takes to react and get a rig from 60 to 0.

(Yep. This again. Think I will take a nap.)

    “AM I BORING YOU???”

Yes, you are. You did not drive a truck 13 years. Go lie to someone else.

I used to love it when the safety man would call me on the phone when i was driving only to lecture me about how unsafe it is to talk on the phone when driving.

The guys that criticized the mechanics were dumb. It’ll get back to the mechanics who talked smack and next time they need a light changed they’ll be in for a mighty long wait.

Dumbest dealing I had with my safety department:

Tow truck driver incompetently dragged my truck against a fence causing damage to both the fence and truck while generating an accident report within my company.

Despite the incident being completely not my fault, they subjected me to mandatory post incident safety training because thats what they always do to drivers after an incident.
