An older truck that’s rebuilt won’t depreciate much.

a new truck will lose 30% of its value every year.
    Just like a new automobiles

In the last two years we’ve spent more on my wife’s car than it’s worth,
Probabaly double what it’s nada book value is .
but it’s a 20 yr old car that we’ve had for 11 years , she likes it, and it’s not going to depreciate at all,
It’s bottomed out and starting to go back up in value , and it’s impossible to find another one like it for almost any price .

where are you going to find a 2001 beetle with a turbo diesel and 5 speed , with a known maintaince history?

we’ve replaced the AC compressor, replaced the speakers, added Bluetooth, had the seats and door panels Re upolstered , had the clutch replaced, (got 240k from the factory clutch) had the timing belt replaced, and the shocks and struts, brakes and wheel bearings, and had it painted, and some other stuff I’m forgetting .
She could afford another car . Her bonus last year was more than I made all year, but she likes her old beetle and wanted to keep it.

I did the same with my old Ford LTL 9000
When things needed rebuilding , I did. I rebuilt the engine , replaced the trans with a rebuilt 13 speed. Replaced the rears and power divider. Replaced the shoes and drums and cans, I also installed parking brakes on both drive axles.
I finally sold it , but only when I found a truck that I liked a lot better for the work I was doing for a super price with all maintenance history in a folder.

New payments are $3300 and insurance is $650 for bobtail. If you own it, that's it

I’d rather throw $40k at a $15k truck then spend $60k on a truck that you know nothing about that’s probably still probably going to need. 20k overhaul, power divider, etc the first year

funny enough, we just put new frame rails in my uncles LTL, 97985ED2-1164-405F-9565-6C2CB295CCC1.jpeg

Retired drivers wanting part time as well. Enough to get out of the house but not have to put in 60+ per week. Make a little money, keep out of the ol ladies hair.. win/win.

Does working part time effect the retirement pay?

Like how unemployment goes down if you earn more then 30% of UI.

At 67 and older you can work full time with full benefits. Below that there are limits unless you want to pay pretty hefty taxes on the money. I believe it was around 15 to 20 hrs per week with no penalty for under 67.

My father retired and was bored and got a part time job but SS reduces his check dollar for dollar , so he found a part time job that paid in cash.

he got a job for a home builder that had the same last name. And all the subcontractors thought he was the owner since he was old,
And the owner would pay him to sit at the job site and drink coffee and talk on the phone because the subs worked almost twice as fast with the “owner “ on site.

worked out good for everyone .

the houses got built in nearly half the time , and my father got paid cash to sit in his pickup and read the newspaper and talk to the grandkids on his cell phone.

Until you reach full retirement age, Social Security will subtract money from your retirement check if you exceed a certain amount of earned income for the year. For the year 2021, this limit on earned income is $18,960 ($1,580 per month). The amount goes up each year. If you are collecting Social Security retirement benefits before full retirement age, your benefits are reduced by $1 for every $2 you earn over the limit. Once you reach full retirement age, there is no limit on the amount of money you may earn and still receive your full Social Security retirement benefit.
If you will reach full retirement age in 2021, you can earn up to $4,210 per month without losing any of your benefits, up until the month you reach full retirement age. After that you can make as much as you can with no penalty.
