    They were used in the 70's and 80's for low ground clearance loads like rail maintenance equipment and road rollers.

    The old grade was pretty much take lunch at the bottom at Hoots If’n you started at the top around 08:00

    Yes, and the interstate is included now. When you buy the Reducible Extra Length/Excess Weight permit you are good up to whatever you can axle and bridge up to 129K. The state has a spreadsheet available through the Permit4idaho website in which you plug in the axle spacings and weight per axle, and it tells you if your legal or over. It's kind of handy.

    I read your two posts and got curious about this “whitebird” so I looked it up.

    Along US 95 I assume? Somebody came along at some point and decided to straighten it?

    The old 95 there looks like it would be a fun ride on a bike.

    That’s the one — I don’t know if the old grade is still accessible anymore, but if it is you’d want to scout it first before you got real crazy— it was definitely For Real in the day
