Hello. Just opened my new trucking company here and looking for my first truck to buy. We are total newbies btw. Finally decided on the specs we wanted which is a dd-15 engine with a 12 spd I shift. Found out that the I shift are exclusive to Volvo but the dd-15 engine is in many trucks including Volvo and Freightliner. So now I'm looking for a Freightliner with a DD-15 engine and an automatic transmission. My question is there a suitable Freightliner automatic transmission that as good as the Volvo I-shift 12 speed which I hear is a really good automatic transmission if not the best in its class. I won't be an owner-operator. We will be hiring drivers. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

1° dd15 .....that engine you will only find in a Freightliner. Volvo only has the D13 or D16.
2° i shift is only Volvo.
Freightliner has it's own 12 speed auto.
3° what has made you decide to start a trucking co?
Because your post shows that you know nothing about trucks.

True. We do not know much about trucks. I have many good friends that are truck company owners and master mechanics and others that I go to for advice. I ship a lot of containers full of dry general merchandise all over the world. My stock comes from all over the US mostly south, east and midwest. Been in this business for almost 19 years. Instead of outsourcing for my shipping needs why not have my new trucking company do it. So will be doing our company loads and also others load through a broker.

my apologies my questions might seem like I'm trolling but I am definitely not. As I said we are still new to this business and are learning new stuff every day. It's just everytime we talk to someone about getting a new truck everyone has there own opinion and selection of what to get which I understand but man your mind changes every day. One day your set on getting a certain model the next your back to the drawing board looking for something else.

Might look into getting some O/O's instead off your own trucks.
    0$ investment.
They will in general do a better job.
And you will not have the headache off finding drivers.
