What do you want out of trucking? Home all the time? Coast to Coast runs? You want to Tarp? Its easy to throw truck names at ya, but not every carrier is going to suit you. I guess at this point in my life, and if I lived in the SE, um how about CRETE? they have southeast freight and probably get you home when you want. Good Luck and DRIVE SAFE

I have been an owner/operator for 24 years. I have 36 years experience with most of it flatbed/stepdeck. Just a thought, I would go with the van as flatbed can be very demanding. Try the van for a year or two and see how it feels, then the flatbed. It is something I run as I find it rewarding tho the tarping can be challenging along with the securement.

i'm 31 and not married. my goal with trucking is to build a small cabin on some family land of mine and have it paid off in two years of trucking.
i'm considering doing flatbeds...looking at mcelroy and tmc.
i want to be otr for two years and then run local after that.

Check your options before you decide.
As you're aware, Toyota is coming, and coming fast.
Flatbed or van will be good. This is an area that will bring a debate 20 pages long in this forum.
You have no shortage of companies within a 50 mile radious that can provide you with weekends at home, benefits, and $$$ to match ANY of the major companies. Or they can run you on average of 25-30% more miles a week than most, as an OTR driver.
The majority of these companies are van operations. And some will take you on with as little as 3 months experience.
Use the majors to get your first year or so of experience. Then grab one of the locals and hold on tight.
