I have a 99 Dodge dually gvwr 10500lbs, trailer is 7500lbs. Do I need irp and ifta if I'm wanting to register it for 26,000? Dmv in Colorado said the plates would be around 1700-2200. Does this sound right?

The trailer weighs 7500 lbs or is that the gvwr of the trailer?

Apportioned plates are for vehicles traveling between 2 or more states and weigh over 26,000 lbs.
No ifta or irp for 26 and under.
If the trailer has a gvwr of over 15,500 lbs they will automatically qualify you for apportioned plates even if you actually weigh less than 26k on the scales.
If your trailer is rated for more than 15,500 you would need it de-rated by the manufacturer to 15,500 to register it as so.
I've heard somewhere that you can take the gvwr plate off the trailer and just register the truck itself to 26k. Not sure how that is done yet...
