A few buddies run vhf and swear by it. I have found very few of my escorts have a vhf but some do. Anyone run it on the regular for oversize runs and projects? Is it worth the money?
Who's running vhf?

If I have a choice I would never run a cb with an escort again. I have a small group of pilots I use consistently and we all have vhf radios. We us the MURS band and have run into very little issues of interference and we try our best to change frequencies if we hear others.
I have been very pleased with the Kenwood TM-281A. I also picked up a couple of handheld radios that work great for ground navigation and to give to our police escorts.stwik, 1951 ford and Rooster1291979 Thank this. -
What's it cost excluding the handhelds?

less then 200 with an antenna and antenna mount. Keep in mind it is illegal to use these radios with out the proper fcc licensing.

You left out about $15.00 to take the technician exam.
But yeah, if you want clear communication, you’d like 2M. Even the simplex frequencies will be clear. .....And common courtesy extended by ham operators is unrivaled.

Barely use cb in Western Canada. All vhf, I had california pilots offer good money if I went back. Even my handheld has probably a 5 mile radius
