I got a job sand hauling in Texas, we have to follow the hours of service regulations for truck drivers, which means I can only drive 11 hours a day, but they also make us sleep in the trucks. so after the 11 hours of driving (or 14 on duty), why am I required to sleep in the truck? Why can't I go home? It's a local job
Why do sand hauling companies require you to sleep in the truck?

Ask about that. Sleeping in the truck is probably for drivers that don't live locally.
austinmike Thanks this. -
It's not local if you're sleeping in the truck.
austinmike and Tb0n3 Thank this. -
If I’m not mistaken I think Texas intrastate has different HOS rules too. And maybe even another oil field exemption. I could be wrong tho.
austinmike, tscottme and Deere hunter Thank this. -
May have something to do with your commute to work being counted towards your HOS..
Just a guess..
Ask your company for clarification on it.austinmike Thanks this. -

My GUESS is requiring you to sleep in the truck adds security for the truck, reduces "my car won't start" missed work, keeps company being liable for their employee having a wreck to/from work in personal vehicle AND company getting sued because company has higher insurance
limits than employee's insuranceaustinmike Thanks this. -
What a difference 4 hours makes.
You went from having a road test this week to having a job in just a few hours. Good for you. -
