The Yanks just like being a Little Bit Different...;)

1 US Gallon (3.785 Litres) is smaller than an Imperial Gallon (4.54 Litres)

1 US ton (2204 LBS) is Lighter than an Imperial Ton(2240 LBS).

    Just saying..

    Oh come on!

Many drill hole patterns etc. are standardized in the industry. Components made for the metric market will have different patterns then those for the inch market.

When Paccar had the idea of introducing a small COE truck for the US market, they imported a small batch of DAF LF trucks. The trucks were fine, but the US body builders had problems with the metric chassis of the DAF. Paccar had no other option then to design their own chassis, and use the cab of the DAF LF. That's how the Peterbilt 220 and Kenworth K270/K370 came into existence.

I've already named all the other components, but let me repeat myself. In metric land 50 mm shafts are a normal size. So there are bearings, seals, cogs etc. for 50 mm drive shafts in stock with companies selling those components. The equivalent size in inch land is 2 inch, or 50.8 mm. The same company would have to stock a similar range of components in 2 inch if it wants to deal with 'inch' customers. An enormous waste of money.

The whole world wants to standardize components to save on costs etc. The fact that the US still is using these old fashioned inch sizes prevents standardization.

    Another nice example, paper sizes.
The US still uses the letter size, but for legal documents they have a different size. In fact there are a bewildering number of unrelated paper sizes is the US.
In Europe we use A4 as the standard paper size. The short side is 210 mm, the long side is 1,4142 x 210 mm = 297 mm. Why is that? 1.4142 is the square root of 2. When you double the size of A4, you get A3 with the same ratio between the short and the long size. Double that and you get A2, and so on up till the giant 4A0. The whole range of standardized A series ranges from 4A0 to A11. If you want paper sizes in between, then there are the B sizes based on the same ratio principle.

The U.S. ton is 2,000 lbs. Far superior to any other so called ton.

Metric ton is 2,204 lbs Those idiots! 2,000 lbs is much better!

Imperial ton is 2,240 lbs. Fricken inbred dyslexic royals!
