New technologies get cheaper when everybody is using them, for example; drum brakes are now more expensive in Europe .

This video is a demonstration of discs and EBS, ABS doesn't work on a truck! You can't deny the the advantage of having these, who knowswhats around the next corner? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UL7A6Fb8AGw&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Like we don't have enough problems with cars rear ending trucks now.

    But seriously, that is impressive.

@schwinder , or maybe somebody else.

on airport crash fire trucks , from paul or titan,do you know how did they connect 2engines

i was never thinking on this until yesterday, company from my city recently have built 2, Z6 6x6 trucks , one on titan chassis with single mercedes 650hp engine and other on thomas with 700hp volvo ,

thomas was sold to NL, and was exposed on interairport munich , titan is here

do you know who make this gears for connecting 2engines

and is this problematic for maintenance to have 2engines especially since they are V8 , is MAN solution much better?

The question worth asking is "what price has a human life"?
Deming,i understand you feel that you are a good driver and you might very well be.
And you may not have needed that little bit extra in the past.

But it only takes 1 moment, that moment is generally less then 1 second, for something to happen (might be you did everything perfect).
Present day society is bias against the truckdriver.
Basicly you would have to prove you are innocent.
Your lawyer(s) alone would cost a 100(0) more then the few dollars you saved.
Not to speak off the human cost.
    Something to think about.
And don't say it can not happen to you.
    It can happen to anyone.

ABS assists the driver, it doesn't prevent crashes, how many trucks have killed people sliding around with the Abs units installed? many many many. All trucks here in a America that were built after 1997 Have ABS standard. And if he did do everything perfect then he didn't lock his wheels causing a skid. so what other advantage does ABS offer other than stopping without skidding (which can be prevented with just learning to slow down to a safe speed)?

We are talking about difference disc vs drum brakes.
You could add EBS vs ABS in the debate.(which has been standard for around 10y now)

wrong post lol i saw one of your older post haha, but dont drum brakes have a larger friction area? calipers respond quicker but the friction area is what counts

There's no comparison on the stopping distances between disc and drum, discs are miles better! ABS doesn't work on a semi, bought a new Scania in 1996 with ABS and thought they were borderline dangerous, I bought another in 1999 with EBS and couldn't believe the difference, like the video above shows a semi loaded to 88,000lbs will stop on a wet surface as quick as a car

Discs are the best on the road but you are still better off with drums off-road, pads fall apart with grit and discs can crack when they get hot and are plunged into cold water.

Also drum brakes on US semis are very small especially on the front axle, they heat up quickly, the drums used on semis are used on 7.5 tonne trucks in naziland, I'd hate to be running the Rockies with them everyday, butt-clenching I'd imagine

I agree with all, but the Automatic limiting valve is in use on our trucks in the US, the front brakes dont work as hard as the rear unless you go into full emergency on the pedal.

    Scania man Thanks this.
