Oh dear, the unthinkable has happened. Even that famous American icon, the Ford F150, needs European help. Ford Dagenham (England) has developed and is building a 3 litre 250HP V6 Power Stroke diesel for the F150. What is the world coming to
.
-
Dagenham did not develop this engine for the F150. These engines have been produced for quite some time. Ford has been selling them to Jaguar and LandRover.
The original engine was a joint development between Ford and PSA (Peugeot/Citroen).
I saw prototypes of these engines on engine dyno about 15 years ago. Still 2.7 litre back then, later the displacement was increased to 3.0 litre. There is also a V8 version (4.4 litre).
I don't think that it is a matter of needing european help.
Ford already had the engine in-house, and saw opportunities for a diesel F150.
Why develop something new when you already have a suitable engine in the family?Oxbow Thanks this. -
Well, this is the official Ford press release:
It may well be based on the V6 diesels you mention, but never the less it seems to be a new version. If I'm not mistaken, Ford at one time owned Jaguar and Landrover.
And by the way, I hope you did notice the smiley? -
Oxbow, W9onTime, spyder7723 and 4 others Thank this.

American version..5L V8 . Not invented by the Dutch........
Oxbow, W9onTime, spyder7723 and 2 others Thank this. -
Yes I saw the smiley.
Just wanted to share that this is not really a new engine specifically designed for the F150.
I usually don't take a press release to serious, because it only shows what they want you to see.
I saw the press release for Volvo's "all new 9 litre CNG engine". Guess what, it is not all new, and it is not even a Volvo. It is a Cummins-Westport engine in a Volvo truck.
I recently saw Scania's press release about the "all new 7 litre Scania engine", but in reality it is a modified Cummins 6.7.Oxbow, W9onTime and spyder7723 Thank this. -
I drove a 5.0 XTR during my time in Canada. Loved it.
Not sure if I like the new 5.0 with the dual injection (direct AND mpfi). I did not drive it yet, but 16 injectors, low pressure and high pressure fuel system. Seems all too complicated to me.Attached Files:
