There are European weight laws. The maximum weight for a semi according to European law is 40,000 kg / 88,000 lbs, such a truck is allowed in all countries of the EU. Individual countries may allow higher weights within their own borders, like 50,000 kg in the Netherlands, and 44,000 kg in other countries. By the way, there are proposals to raise the weight to 44,000 kg / 97,000 lbs.

There are also so called Eurcombis , longer vehicles with for instance two trailers. They can have a max. weight of 60,000 kg / 132,000 lbs. They are only allowed on highways and a few other roads. They are not yet legal all over Europe, but there are proposals to allow them all over the EU. They are legal in the Netherlands and Germany.

No bridge laws in Europe eh? Seems like one of the other EU guys posted all the bridge laws from different countries the last time we went through this.

Sounds like same weight law differences we have from State to state. Sure Canada is same way. Then throw in permitted loads...

    SAR and Oxbow Thank this.

Nothing remotely as restrictive as in the US. And furthermore, nothing as illogical as in the US.

I’ve seen many times a big truck get stuck on uneven ground , the tires in the air just spin and the tire with traction do nothing , to think the non spinning tire are getting the same torque as the free wheeling tires is impossible.
If the non spinning tire were getting even minimum torque the truck would easily pull out.

spyder7723, sdaniel and haycarter Thank this.
