You must have been driving a while to be making 47cents a mile with May, new drivers I am sure you know start at 36 cents a mile then 39 cents a mile a year later and a half cent after that each six months.

Related to company driver 48 OTR and setting aside a good freight base and consistent work that suits my "preferred driving style", the little things add up. In no particular order ...
    • All equipment kept under about 3 years or 500k miles and well spec'd
    • 505 hp engines
    • Paid XM radio
    • Paid DirecTv with DVR and full package and mounted TV
    • Weigh gauges on trucks and trailers
    • Air actuated slider system all trailers and all work well
    • PasSmart
    • APU
    • Fridge/freezer
    • TPMS on trucks and trailers
    • Satellite monitored reefer units
    • BestPass with a good safety rating and EzPass
    • Paid real and practical miles
    • Great shop operation
    • Will route and pay around winter Wx in some scenarios
    • Little to no I-70 travel between 25 and 15
    • Office that leaves you alone
    • Very responsive with lumper or washout advances. No questions asked
    • Blue Beacon account
    • Very effective use of available hours
    • Almost always preplanned
    • Open door policy with no "politics"
    • Great direct shipper and buyer customer base and niche
    • Very little broker freight
    • Almost flawless payroll dept
    • Easy paperwork requirements
    • Reserved parking reimbursed

I’ve had some decent jobs over the years but lucked into a great one a year ago. .51 per mile off the hub miles, 2600 to 3000 a week. Paid for everything else including: loading, unloading, d/h’s, waiting, any and all delays etc. even fueling the truck at .02 per gallon. That’s not much but there’s “no uncompensated” time.
$1650-$1900 a week and home every weekend for 40-60 hours. Cover the earth!

Vic Firth and Lonesome Thank this.

5 years. Also, you can always ask for a raise. That’s what I do. ;)

Lots of outfits escalate raises to drivers when and where they see exceptional performance numbers. Make the top 10% class, 2 quarters straight. If nothing happens, line something else out and put in notice and see what happens.

Mid sized carriers especially have no choice but to keep their top performers happy. The consistent runners who are never late make them more money, and their jobs much easier.

This right here is so exact. I’ve been at my company 5+ years and have walked into the boss’s office every year and asked for a raise, that goes along with my yearly raise also. I have not been denied yet. I’m happy.
