"Sounds like you are having a great life then! thanks"

EndHatred, I intend on having a great life once I finish this CDL school. I'm deciding between TMC and Maverick right now, and feel pretty sure TMC is gonna be it.

I got a degree in business, and realized that wearing a tie and working in an office was awful. I realized being out and about was my passion. I'd maybe like to be a terminal manager one day though when I'm older. Wish I could have been a mechanic or an engineer, but never had the aptitude for it.

Great reasons, there are a few good reasons to be a driver & you found them

I don't know anything about those companies but I'm sure you can search on here & get loads of info.!
    Thanks for the reply
Maybe with that degree you'll own your own trucking company, ya think?

Oh God you're as old as me then. Go back, turn around and start all over...or else maybe it's time to go to sleep.

Not yet. CDL School starts end of August. But I think I will.

    And to answer the question.
I want to be a trucker driver because.....
It's time for me to do something I've always wanted to do. I've worked good jobs that I hated for all of my married life. It served me and my family well, and I was happy to do it, and have always been proud of the life my wife and kids enjoyed because I worked hard, even if I didn't like the work. But I've always wanted to drive long haul OTR, it's just that married life and two beautiful children sort of put that choice on hold.

But those responsibilities have ended and now I can work at something that I think will suite me well.
I enjoy the solitude of the road, while I wouldn't say I'm loner.
I've always strived to have a minimal lifestyle. For me simple was always better.
I'm going to enjoy not being in the same place every day, even if it looks the same (if you've seen 1 truck stop....)

LOL. I like the simple life, but I can't seem to write a simple post. :)

    Puppage Thanks this.

You wrote a fine post, longer than most members do. Thanks. I think you'll enjoy it, at least for the first years anyway, depending on who you work for, or longer if you get your own truck or lease. I too waited till my daughter was in college before heading out, college kids don't want Mommy around anyways. You'll do just fine....but I wouldn't use beandip, you'ld get way too many fart comments. Sorry I was eating dinner, beans & rice when I asked that, shame on me

I use to like to drive. The years and miles flew by and now I don't.

...to leave a trail of broken hearts and diesel smoke across this fine nation.

For triple digit large cars and Wyoming sun rises.

For the love of the run and the thrill of the cat and mouse games we play.

I want to drive a truck because for me it is still a trill to hear that kitty cat purr as the tires sing on the blacktop

I still enjoy rolling across Iowa in the spring and smelling the fresh worked dirt as they plant the fields.
Watching the combines harvest wheat in North Dakota is a sight to see.
How about the view as you drop off the the hill coming into Vegas at night .
Or waking up in Montana to a fresh snow on the mountain.
Or when you walk in the door and your little girl drops everything and hollers daddies home and hugs and kisses you .

Heck I have 35 years of reasons I want to be truck driver and at least 15 more I hope .
I can go on for hours of all the good things that I have seen and done because I drive a truck sure there are times it sucks but it still is the best way make a buck in my book .
