Sorry, but I googled this and couldn't find an answer with a reliable reference. Why not price per 500g?

And if you're buying 500g of ham, do you ask for "500 grams" or "a half kilo"?

And why are Coffee Crisp bars not a major export?

    I'll shut up now....

Usually lunch meat is priced per 100 grams. Take a look at Prosciutto salami at $32 per Kilogram,,tough sell. .99 per 100 grams is much more appealing. Its a marketing technique. An excellent read is The Hidden Persuaders. The book explains how marketers sell, its a old book but the techniques still work like a charm.
Coffee Crisp bars are in the same category as Smarties. We do not export our finest products.

Never seen it priced per 300 grams, always per 100.

You would ask for 500 grams.

As for Coffee Crisp... I can hook you up, I know a guy.

No wonder I couldn't find the answer on google....I asked the wrong question!

I thought I saw meat priced per 300g in Niagara Falls, ON, years ago. I must have been mistaken. Anyway, I just told the counterman, "I don't know from grams; just give me enough to make a good sandwich".

OK, I'll ask you my final Canadian stumper:

Are styrofoam cups illegal in Canada? I ask this because I don't recall ever seeing one.

    Tim's: paper cups.
    Coffee machine: paper cup
Coffee pot at the terminal: paper cups

In fact, at two places I stopped to pick up an outbound shipment, everyone had their own coffee mug. When I accepted an offer of a cup of coffee, I was given a mug from a smaller rack labeled "guest mugs".

    Very classy!

Paper... easy to recycle (plus, we grow a lot of trees). EPS (styrofoam) cups... not so much.

Seems kinda unusual over here everything is priced by the Kilo or by the litre and i would of thought the same would apply to Canada. And you can say either 500 g or 1/2 kilo they will know what you mean its like asking for 1/2 a lb or 8 oz its all the same. Just said a different way.
