Competition tends to drive down prices. I don't like Walmart, but they can mix things up. I have not had much experience with the local clinics other than to get my DOT physical. My former doctor could do them, but he moved out of town so I have been using one of the local clinics. They are cheaper and usually get me in and out faster than my regular doctor did when he was in town. It seems that they should be able to write a longer prescription than a month. I can't see going back to a doctor every 30 days to get a new prescription if it is a chronic problem.
