These are some generic weekly numbers, obviously everybody is different.

    2500 miles at $2 a mile

    $5000
    Leased to a carrier -15%

    $4250 left

    2500 ÷ 7mpg X $5.50 a gallon $1,964

    $2286 left

    .15 a mile for maintenance = $375

    $1911 left

    Cargo/liability insurance $200
    Truck physical damage insurance $100
Trailer insurance & occupational insurance $100

    $1511 left

Truck payment $800 (remember the price of trucks now)
    Trailer rental $200

    $511 left

    Yes, $500 that's it.
You take a week off, Truck in the shop for a week etc you are $1400 in the hole with fixed costs.

You have to run non stop with no problems to barely keep your head above water.
It's impossible to hire a driver at $2 a mile, FORGET about that also.

Why are you paying for liability & cargo insurance?
Why are you paying insurance on a trailer the company owns?

The first two are oversized, going right up the road. Feel free to ignore them. This is set at $1,000 minimum. San Antonio to anywhere, 125mi radius.

Much of it was generic numbers. Now I'm not pulling $2.00 a mile freight, I'm also not paying the pump price for fuel. Both my truck and trailer are paid off. I pay $$39.00 a week for bobtail and $19 a month for physical damage. I figure what the load is paying per mile after my carrier gets their cut.

The runs I have been doing have paid roughly $3,100 after fuel for 1,400 miles. Home everyday, but night at home every other, ie twice in the truck during the week.

    I don’t see the problem
If I can ride around and make it at $1 per mile then $2 would put me over the top the way I see it anyway

The original post was at 3am so could be a couple drinks in or just wishing he was at home??

This isn't mega carrier at 65% where they give u a trailer and a bunch of stuff.
Many places to lease on with higher percentage you lease on have more fees, you're responsible for getting a trailer etc.

Fuel costs alone are close to $1 a mile.
