Class A or class B its all the transportation industry so yes your conviction matters but the company's requirements is the factor whether they hire you or not.Thing to do is call the company you're most interested in first before filling out an application.

Different companies have different hiring policies in trucking. 10 year employment history (school or unemployed listed). Background checks are assumed to be given by companies, most ask you about only what you list on application.
Best way to handle felonies or misdemeanor record is to be able to talk about it as being in your past. Don't dwell on it if it comes up and don't hide it if it's something that can easily be found out for a small fee by employers. Most small companies will rely on what you list as what happened. Criminal record info is not detailed, so you just have to tell your side of the story to make yourself look repentant and a changed person. -
At a minimum a company should obey Federal regulations and do a full 10 year employment. This involves accounting for all gaps. They are required by most insurance companies to get DMV records. Like I wrote in my previous posting Hireright provides most of this information. Anything more then this depends on the type of business the company does.
