Gonna be tough to find work for a truck that old. You arr talking a 16 year old machine. There are companies that will take on older trucks, depending on the truck passing a company held DOT inspection. Of course, some of those companies are less than desirable places to work, but they can be worked. Funny thing is that with most companies, once you get hired with a late model tractor, there is no requirement that it remain a late model truck. It's getting hired on initially that is the issue, not staying on as the truck ages

Correct me if I am wrong, but you are only 16 years old, so I assume that you will not be the driver yourself if you do find a place to lease it on?

Landstar, America's premiere O/O company will hire any age tractor as long as it passes their DOT inspection.... every 120 days.

In order to lease to them you have to have 3 yrs OTR experience. Kinda hard to do at 16 when you cannot legally have a CDL until 18 and cannot drive across state lines until 21.

First I think you still need to be 21 years of age to drive OTR, locally you should be able to drive at 18? But that is an old truck it might be very hard, but not to may be a container company? I have seen many very old trucks hauling containers.

I don't know if the loop hole is still there, but I started driving across state lines when I was 18. The loop I found back then stated if the truck and cargo were owned by the same company and were not "general comodities" any driver could transport them across state lines from age 18. I found a construction company stupid enough to put an 18yo in the cab of their almost new 1983 Pet LowBoy and hauled the heavy equipment (over dimension) throughout a 5 state area. Was stopped a few times at the scale house, and it took a bit of time to let the DOT officer search the regulations, but sure enough they would after a while and I was on the road again.

Might not have been very efficent, but what a job for a kid right out of High School that had dreamed of Big Rigs.....

The container companies will sign on ANYTHING! I saw one COE that was covered in duct tape and the owner had the motor apart just outside the gate on a side road! A bunch of those guys parked and worked on their junkers on the side roads (industrial area, not residential) outside the port (Bayonne NJ?). I actually run a 1995 single axle FLD120 w/ small sleeper leased to a company I was already driving with as a company driver - special case. I paid $5300 for it and have been running for 6 months so far with no downtime...
