I was coming out of truck stop in Al today, (Falkville Loves)
And see dragging tire makes going all the way down the on ramp to I-65 and continue up the
interstate for a bit...
Then see where they came from, A CRST "expedited" van...
I pull over and see a guy out looking at the trailer tandems with a confused look on his face...
Ask him if the breaks are free yet... He says "huh"?
Said did you make sure the breaks werent frozen before you left??? He says "I wasnt driving" she was, and points to the lady walking towards us.
Told her to charge the trailer brakes, and went and ggrabbed my hammer. 1 wack and it was free.
I asked how long they were driving... guy says "she just started" and I've been at it 8 years now..
Then asked if they were a team, He said "no"
I asked if he was her trainer, He said "no"
Mind you, He wasnt dressed to be out in 20 deg weather at all... and looked rather cold. So I dont really believe his "Story"
Seriously hope that CRST is training people better than this... And if this guy IS a trainer, He should be relieved from those dutys ASAP.. He isnt teaching anything.
CRST saftey lady assured me that they get "extensive" winter driving training, and that ALL of what I told her is covered in that... Is it ???
Did these 2 just slip through the cracks?
They had what appeared to be a almost new Cascadia
Winter Pre-trips

I guess you can change the name to Crap Rolling Slow Today!
CondoCruiser Thanks this. -
I never did learn how to unfreeze trailer breaks with a hammer. It did cost me some tires my rookie year.
-
Wow... I guess I always thought that it was taught to people in school and what not.
Seems so much easier than destroying tires for nothing.Raiderfanatic and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
#1. It should be taught to all newbies in training.
#2. Besides that point, you "should" be able to see you're dragging a locked up wheel on the slow roll-away.blairandgretchen and Raiderfanatic Thank this. -
Why does this have to be taught? It should be common sense. Oh yeah, I forgot, there is no common sense anymore.
blairandgretchen, Raiderfanatic, TwinStickPeterbilt and 1 other person Thank this. -
And I get a hard time for bashing CRST !?
This is pretty common. Check their CSA, look at what crawls out of their trucks - they truly define "bottom feeder company".
Thanks for taking the time to post that. -
the sad fact is there are too many people who barely come to the standard
of steering wheel holder
and no amount of training can make people have common sense
or basic abilities to do the job correctlyRaiderfanatic and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Ah, it's just a heavy load. That's what they make 1st gear for. Vroooom! Drag tire, friction heats up brake, thaws out, problem solved!
This just isn't CRST, it's industry wide.blairandgretchen and Raiderfanatic Thank this. -
blairandgretchen Thanks this.
