ok i put new starter, batteries. when it weather drops like it did today below 20 it will not start. only reason why i started it is because i had my dad spray starter fluid and bam. this happened twice. any ideas on how i can avoid this. because if im alone i cant spray the fluid and start it.

    Wait what?

What year and what engine do you have?

Your best bet is to put an engine block heater on the engine and plug it in, if that isn't practical, you can start it by yourself. Spray the starter fluid into the air cleaner and cover the opening with a rag (this keeps the starter fluid from evaporating out). Quickly move to the cab and start the engine, remove the rag as soon as the engine is running. When I'm at home on the farm, I use a propane torch to heat up the oil pan for about a half hour before I start the engine.

I always spray, run to the cab and start the truck, it works just fine with one person. It does not evaporate quickly. Note that some engines are forbidden to start with ether.

You can spray it then go and start it. Don’t be spraying too much of that ether in it. You ll Fock it up. Espucally these emissions truck with all the carbon packed in it. Better to just leave it running if it’s that cold. Or go start every few hours

I've mentioned it before on here but ether is HORRIBLE!!!! Ether washes away the thin oil film in the cylinder wall crosshatches and eventually will glaze the liners up. If you absolutely must use ether, let it crank over for 5-10 seconds before giving it a small shot (while cranking obviously). The fuel being injected will at least act like somewhat of a lubricant and be easier on the cylinders.

This is a liner from an ether addicted 3406 Cat. Glazed.

That spray is bad for use long term its like crack to a junky, the eng. heater is best till you get a inframe because of low comp.

thats why. its hooked on starter fluid. also use t5 or thinner oil. oil is the hardest just to move in the cold
