I hear a rumor that Wood Co. Ohio has been getting Sheriff deputies DOT certs and are talking about getting portables. I do not know this 100% but just forwarding info. I know they are working St Rt 25 looking for guys trying to miss I75 scales in Findlay Ohio and Bowling Green. Plus US20 by Fremont Ohio is Hot with Dot and portables this week.

Well.... I can tell you from experience that Wood county Ohio had portables in 1989.

I got to test them out at Perrysburg. I'll never forget that cop, name was Mr. Lord... and he thought he was God!!

Driving a 1987 cabover Kenworth pulling a 48-102 spread loaded with train wheels. And I was legal on all axles.

I was informed by the Dot inspector at I70 eb Indiana/Ohio border.
Most county departments have trained DOT officers.
    This was last summer.

DOT certifications are not required to run portable scales.

The local S.O nearest me do not touch or look at trucks and have no plans to. And Deere you are correct about not needing cert for operating scales, But I didn't say that. I hear Wood co. is inspecting trucks, and may get county owned portables. Now the great Medina co. has been at it for years and has their own county funded scale house. Most Ohio steel haulers are aware how great them folks are. They are a complete breed of there own.

Where’s the scale house in Medina county? I’ve trucked all over it and never been in it.

St. Rt. 18/57. 1 mile west of medina. On the south side of road. Both directions must enter. Look for commerce drive and zoom in on google
