Would Florida Rock & Tank lines be a good starter company?

FR&T seems to have a bad reputation, both on the reviews on Indeed and on this board (someone posted they are like the tanker version of SWIFT).

Would they at least be a company to get a little experience with before finding something better, or should I avoid them altogether? (I’m primarily interested in the Jacksonville Fl. location which, coincidentally, I believe is where the poster in the bad company reviews board was from).

And if they are bad, exactly what is it that is so bad about them?

Wouldn’t mind, but I’m willing to go OTR for a year or so, get the exp., then work for a reputable local company.

I think some LTL companies like Estes will train newer drivers, you might have to work the dock first, I'm not too sure, their website mentioned this. I started at SEFL on the dock when I was 19, and learned to drive there, but I was 19, so I didn't mind dock punishment, Lol.

Did you just graduate from a school? I had to renew my Class A @ J-Tech in Jacksonville.

I’d also like to drive tank/hazmat.

    • A minimum of 1 year experience driving a tractor-trailer within the last three years. Driving school certificates are not required but will be reviewed if submitted with your application.
I think Florida Rock & Tank is strict about having 1 yr. experience.

Apply at Tankstar; they might bend the rules a little. I've seen the company cut a lot of slack about experience.
This one is in Jacksonville and home daily.
