Can automatics handle the rigors of an oilfield? Some applications should just stay with manuals, I figure.

To a big business getting a trucker to stay a couple months in oilfield the turn rate in Vacuum drivers is extremely high, more so then regular truckers that being over-the-road work. My company had a 15% retention. The work wasn't they worst iv had the worst I had dealing with bs of OTR and not being paid for every hour. The hardest part was the cleanups and long hours. The problem is OTR drivers are coming over and are tired of not being paid for all their hours. These companies who had them test out in an automatic did them and everyone they did this to a great disservice, and they did this on purpose. Finding drivers without a restriction on manuals is becoming a common problem, and since they can only drive automatics oil field companies are leaning more to buying only automatic trucks to fill the seats faster because the turn rate is so high.
To which truck to buy the answer when I owned my business, I had an accountant she would tell me what I could afford to do and what I couldn't, Thankfully my business wasn't trucking, but less volatile, you need to have an understanding what's gonna break the bank and what's practical. I don't know your finances, but if you intend to have a business for a while you need know finances well and understand where the bottom line is and not sell your worth less or you end up bankrupt trying to compete. Yes, it’s being done every day. I know many companies hauling brine & sulphur in non baffled tanks with autos and they have no issues. The anthem has the nicer interior in my opinion.

Speaking from 6 years in an anthem, 2019 for 5 years, and now a 2025 I would absolutely not put that truck in any application other than highway use. That 2019 will rattle to pieces in no time, by far the worst driving, terrible pull to the right truck I’ve ever driven. My 25 is considerably better, but I hesitate to go off road with it as well, although the job requires it, I take it slow and easy. The pinnacle is a good truck, I drove one for the same company I’m with now in the anthems, and used it daily for landfill work pulling live bottoms, held together well for the most part. 1st truck is the 19, by far the worst truck I’ve ever driven, 2nd truck is my current truck, far better truck all together.
