He could have just grabbed it out of the dock at a store. For dry van routes your last stop is usually just a drop and hook.

 

Yep, definitely just taken from the store. Those things sit out there, with no pin locks all day and night. The employees don’t even pay attention (for $8 an hour would you?), and it’s common for the trailers to get picked up and replaced all hours of the day. Plus, they keep the receiving door closed and locked all the time- ironically, to prevent theft. Lol.
