Never...even if I am delivering rock to a job site, and park right next to the porta-potty....doors locked. Too many goons out there.

While I do not know the OP--from his other posts--he has been around the block and does an LTL run into NYC EVERYNITE--so I can't swear since I wasn't there--but I'm betting he did--Remember--locks are only for innocent people--to the average THIEF--they only add a second or two--
just my $.02 -
Hi if were me , i ask the saftey dept and tell them what happen here, rember there alot bs drivers and they might think your up too something fishy to get more hours too keep the truck moving, so i would explain it to them very good and in detail, you have too rember, we have alot drivers out there making up storys everyday, so when they hired you , you were hired too tell the truth, or close anyway, then go the nearest truckstop and sit or buy a anthor log book , so you can drive legal like, but if were me , i just wait for the company fax my last 7 days , then when you go thru the coops explain what happen ,but wondering how that would work when you forgot e-logs, but offcer my e-logs got stolen, honset injuns

If you haven't already done so, file a police report. Not in the hope that they will ever recover something but to provide supporting documentation for your stolen logbook.
Marksteven Thanks this. -
this is the best advice so far. -
Nope, I gotta fess up to this.
MY DUMB ### DID NOT LOCK THE DOOR.
We make about 6 "offical" stops a night, not to mention bathroom breaks, stopping for grub (yeah in manhattan), sometimes we wear our coats while unloading sometimes we get hot and take them off and toss them (you guessed it) up front.
So between me and my lumper, we got sloppy, we jump in and out so much we just got lazy and stopped locking the door. We didn't think we'd be only 40' away from the truck and someone could get in there without us noticing.
Well we learned the had way, and it could have been worse.
I stopped carrying my checkbook in my briefcase when I stopped running OTR. I don't use GPS or nave units. My labor's phone was shut off by AT&T immediately, we both had our personal car keys and wallets on us. (I never understood why some people take their wallets out when they ride) and since this was a hotswap daycab used by just about everyone in the company there were no personal effects in the truck to take.
I just wonder how pissed that crackhead was when he thought he scored an iPad and ended up with an old dog eared copy of Pilot's Challenge magazine? Oh well, at least he can get two Reeces for $2!
(oh and when I worked for You Is A Truck, they used to use our SS#'s as employee ID numbers. I hated that. That's part of the reason I freaked out about my logbook at 1st, but my current company doesn't use that format.)
