I just use my winch bar as im checking straps or chains. Get a good feeling of the sound and how it bounces off tire.

I got a billy club, it’s a good tire thumper and doubles as a self defense tool.

I use my maglight, I already have it out for looking at break shoes and checking break shoes, and leaky wheel seal leaks.
Can tell my the thump noise if I need to follow up check with the guage.
Also because it's free, (and mosyly because lots of times the only open pump) I use loves tires pass.

Half of them are members on here and give negative advice to new truckers too. But yet they spend their free time on a truckers forum too. I dont get it

    Depends what negative advice is.

I can only speak for myself. When someone has a negative attitude, I'll certainly help reinforce it. Someone has a positive or hopeful attitude, I'll certainly reinforce that.

When someone is completely full of ####, and giving advice to guys seeking sincere advice, I'll call them on their BS all day.

You have to like trucking to be in this game. People that get in just for the money, quickly sour.

I must really like it.... No matter how high or low the game gets, I wouldn't rather be doing anything else. I sometimes wish I had more time for projects I've started and those I haven't yet begun, but too long off the road and I become difficult to deal with.

I sold my first truck Blackie when my Dad became REALLY ill, and needed a keeper. I took a local job with Schneider, then with a guy I used to do OTR for when he had a local opening. I worked like 80 hours a week.

Even doing that, had I not Dad at home, I would have bought a POS fifth wheel and stayed at the yard lol.

i wasnt saying you are one of them. I see all the time when a new potential driver comes on a member will say dont do it, and wish i never got in it. I guess those people have no other skills what soever and never had any other skills and were forced to do it.

Well, when the arguments start, then lets put up the Pepsi challenge. Post a statement, lets see some trucks, etc. Out of all the members on here, handful of guys do that. Those would be my credible sources if I didn't know nothin about nothin.

    Humility-
The mods are owners of companies, and full time drivers. There's guys that are full time drivers, trainers, O/O, wrenches, and very credible ones.
When a new face pops up, and is going to tell someone their business, they may even get a Mulligan or two. Then the forum is going to dog pile on them.

What fascinates me is someone will pose a question or situation, and someone may respond. The OP ( Original Poster ) of the problem or situation 99% of the time never asks to whom he is speaking.

Well said but I'll add a couple of things.

A lot of times a new driver or would-be driver comes here with preconceived ideas. The advice he gets here doesn't gibe with what he heard in school or at the truck stop lunch counter, or in truckers magazines. He gets resentful, he gets defensive, and he quits listening.
The other thing we see way too much of in here are people who ask advice but what they really want is for the other members to validate whatever idea he's come up with whether it's workable or not. That never ends well.
When several people give them the same advice, especially if they're new to the game and they argue with the advice because it doesn't fit their idea, things get really ugly around here.
Having said that, it's been that way for a long time and I don't see any real change any time soon. Grit your teeth and bear it.
