OP: Been there, done that. Fortunately I was able to ask a couple of helpful pedestrians to block traffic for me as I backed up a block and then around a corner.

    Calling the cops also works.

If you stopped before you hit it, you got it right.

My one scary experience was when there were no signs AT ALL and I could just tell the bridge was too low. pulled all the way up, crawled on top of the sleeper and yep, the staa rated road in Louisville, KY took me under a non-signed 13' 3" bridge.

That is hilarious. I love when the slogans don't quite pan out. Wait, I guess in this case, it did.

i thought it was "standard practice" that if one tops a trailer he/she is gone. that should apply to any driver, of any truck being operated. just no excuse for stupidity.

It's a minor issue to a trucking company, that's why. They need bodies, not intellectuals.

maybe so, but the costs to repair the damaged truck, if the insurance denies the claim due to driver negligence. then any repairs to the bridge (or other type of over pass) again, if the insurer denies the claim. here in my state, say for instance a truck catches fire after it crashes under an overpass, the state gets them for fire service costs, repairs to the over pass, and the road as well. we had a tanker out of up sate, speed under an overpass on an exit off ramp, it flipped over (had jet fuel) burn the over pass so much, much of it had to be replaced, and the road melted away. well over a million dollar claim. can't say who paid for that, as it was the drivers fault for doing nearly highway speed with a tanker on an exit ramp.

The cost of repair are nominal to the company. Minor issue.
