A truck driver escaped without a scratch when his 40-tonne rig sailed over a 20ft gap to land on a bridge after smashing through safety barriers in a spectacular crash.

Amazed police say the driver missed detour signs on the motorway flyover in Wurzburg, Germany, and soared off the road, through the air and came to halt on a partially demolished bridge below.
